Murt Urges Passage of Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists Bill
Rep. Thomas P. Murt (R-Montgomery/Philadelphia) today joined a bipartisan group of lawmakers and representatives of the Pennsylvania Nurse Anesthetists Association to urge passage of House Bill 1866 which would recognize the qualifications of certified registered nurse anesthetists (CRNAs) in state law.
Murt noted that CRNAs are fully trained, specialized nurses who provide anesthesia services in health care facilities in areas in need across the Commonwealth.
“Even when these facilities have an anesthesiologist on staff, it is the CRNA who delivers the anesthesia, monitors the patient and revives the patient,” Murt said. “CRNAs are at the patient’s bedside before, during and after every surgery. Clearly, CRNAs play a critical role in the delivery of health care services in Pennsylvania.”
House Bill 1866 recognizes that CRNAs can and do act as sole anesthesia providers in many settings and would define the scope of practice for CRNAs in the Commonwealth, Murt added.
“In the last legislative session, the governor and lawmakers acted together to increase access to quality health care for every Pennsylvanian,” Murt continued. “House Bill 1866 is one of the last pieces of that initiative and I strongly urge the House to move quickly to pass it.”
House Bill 1866 is currently before the House Professional Licensure Committee.
